An Iced-Out Anniversary

Ocean Drive magazine celebrated 15 years of fashion, entertainment, and lifestyle with a star-studded soiree.

Brittany Peitsmeyer
February 26, 2008
It was no surprise that event impresario Barton G. would be called in to create the backdrop for Ocean Drive's invitation-only 15th anniversary party, rumored to have a seven-figure budget, on February 15. The premier luxury lifestyle magazine invited its impressive V.I.P. list of more than 2,500 dignitaries, athletes, and celebs to celebrate at the Crystal Palace, a 20,000-square-foot tent set up on Midtown Boulevard, adjacent to the magazine's new offices.

Once past the tight security and paparazzi-strewn red carpet, guests were welcomed inside the sprawling tent by event staffers. Washed in white, the Crystal Palace featured more than one million individual crystals throughout several decor installations, including two 12-foot chandeliers, complete with costumed dancers-who also wore chandelier headpieces-inside each one. Above the main bar in the back of the tent, Barton's architectural team created a three-story tiered structure with fifteen alcoves, each complete with a nearly naked model whose body was adorned with strategically placed crystals.Guests danced throughout the evening to the sounds of DJ Ruckus while enjoying cocktails compliments of Imperia Vodka and Martin Miller's Gin-also event sponsors-while projection screens showed images of Ocean Drive's past covers and special events.

Barton's in-house culinary team offered guests a variety of delicacies to enjoy. Everything from seafood paella to a cheese and antipasto was served as, well as extensive dessert options such as chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate éclairs, and more.

Vignettes from event sponsors, such as the Ed Hardy fragrance bar and fashion label Sada & Company's Sada Fashion Lounge, lined the perimeter of the tent, providing places for guests to kick back. White modular furniture was also set up throughout the space. Mid-tent, behind the DJ booth, Imperia Vodka set up a lounge for privileged V.I.P.s, such as baseball greats Mike Piazza and Alex Rodriguez, to relax.
The 20,000-square-foot tent was washed in white and dripping with more than one million crystals throughout its many decor installations.
