Baby-Boomer Web Site Marks First Foray Into Event Marketing With Beatles Concert Anniversary

Anna Sekula
August 19, 2010

Four years before Woodstock became known as the largest concert in American history—and a pivotal moment for popular music—the Beatles' 1965 show at Shea Stadium broke records for attendance and revenue. To commemorate that concert and launch its platform for music events, FlowerPowerCreative.com held a 200-person cocktail party and celebration at Citi Field on Monday night. The three-hour gathering, which took place at the year-old stadium's Delta Sky360 Club, is the first in a series of events from FlowerPowerCreative, which is looking to bring its online discussion of music, politics, art, women's rights, the environment, and technology offline to generate a broader forum.

Invited to mark the occasion and provide a reminder of the legendary English rock band, FlowerPowerCreative brought in the Sheatles, an all-female Beatles tribute band selected by Sid Bernstein, the man behind the Shea Stadium concert, as the winner of a Battle of the Beatles' Bands competition on August 2. Bernstein, a music promoter and producer who brought the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and others to the U.S., was also on hand to speak about Beatlemania and the 1965 show as well as mark his 92nd birthday among other close friends and colleagues of the Beatles.

In addition to the music performances and speeches from Bernstein and FlowerPowerCreative co-founders Neil Chaimas and Doug Levison, the event served up some Beatles-inspired food and drink. Reliving the vegetarian lifestyle of all four members of the British band, the organizers chose a menu of veggie burgers, soy hot dogs, and corn fritters accompanied by nonalcoholic cocktails named for famous Beatles songs.
