The grand opening party for the Agua Caliente Casino, Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage is shaping up to be a colorful—almost frenetic—affair. For the big-scale event on Friday, a multicultural drum circle will perform for guests on the red carpet. The group Pan Flute, accompanied by a Chilean band, will perform in the rotunda, a cellist will play in the Steakhouse restaurant, and a guitarist and vocalist will be stationed in the Waters Cafe.
A diversity of food offerings will include chocolate-and-coffee-crusted carved prime roast (from the Steakhouse), dim sum (from the Waters Cafe), and fruit tarts and chocolate truffles (from the hotel's Java Caliente café). A sommelier and cheese expert will hold court in the Sunset Suite, typically a high-rent accommodation for high rollers, and a fireworks display designed by Pyro Spectaculars consisting of 2,500 shells—including explosives that look like pairs of dice—will light up the desert sky. Destination Pros is planning the spectacle, which the hotel announced with some playful invitations last month.
