Anna Maria de Souza: The Brazilian Ball's Leading Light

Anna Maria de Souza, founder and organizer of Toronto’s Brazilian Carnival Ball and recipient of BizBash Toronto’s inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award, died September 18 after a nine-month fight with cancer. Since 1966, when the first ball was held in a Portuguese church basement, the spectacular fund-raiser has generated more than $46 million for various beneficiaries in Toronto and Brazil.
