Cogeco Data Services is offering the public free access to a fleet of EcoCabsโ€”and free WiFi serviceโ€”as part of a monthlong marketing campaign designed to illustrate just how mobile the company's wireless service is. "We're targeting our approach to the mobile worker: journalists, business travelers, and tourists," said Virginia Brailey, Cogeco's vice president of marketing and communications. "The campaign is focused on illustrating the truly mobile experience the One Zone WiFi network provides."

The network, operational for the past two years, covers a six-kilometer area that stretches from Front Street north to Bloor Street and from Jarvis Street west to Spadina Avenue. The company is offering free rides in a fleet of four branded EcoCabs inside the service area.

"We want to make sure what we're doing in terms of advertising is in the zone," said Brailey, who reported that the company's EcoCab drivers use an iPod Touch to demonstrate to passengers how the One Zone WiFi service works. Riders also receive a free one-day pass to try out the service at their leisure.

In addition to offering access to green transportation, Cogeco has called on street artist Dave Johnston (who goes by the name Chalk Master) to create 3D chalk art on city streets starting on Wednesday. Cogeco is also running a print campaign developed by Ogilvy One that highlights WiFi hotspots throughout the city.
