The new Radisson Plaza Mississauga Toronto Airport, is a $36 million Victorian-themed hotel eight kilometers from Pearson International Airport. The full-service property, which has 100 suites, opened on September 17 and is the first in Canada to be awarded the brand’s Plaza distinction in more than 16 years.
Owners Harpreet and Ginni Sethi of Priyance Hospitality broke ground on the property, designed by Desmond Silveira Design Ltd., in 2005. Crown moulding, crystal chandeliers, dark woods, and a mix of Asian and Victorian furniture fill the public areas, event and meeting spaces, and the guest rooms.
The hotel offers 13,000 square feet of event and meeting space that can accommodate as many as 800 guests. Conference facilities include the Roof Top Glass Room and the 3,500-square-foot Terrace Garden, a multitiered theatre/presentation room, and the Grand Victorian Ballroom, which has 26 foot-high ceilings, large windows, a balcony/lounge, and lighting system with two dozen 800-pound Bohemian crystal chandeliers.
The Radisson Plaza also has a fitness center with Bowflex and Nautilus equipment and a spa area with an indoor saltwater pool, a whirlpool, a steam room, and a sauna.
The hotel has undertaken several green initiatives, including recycling programs, energy efficient lighting and bathroom fixtures, and sustainable food choices in the venue’s two restaurants, the Regent Restaurant and the Regal Lounge.
