1. MADISON SQUARE GARDEN TO BUY TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL: The Madison Square Garden Company is buying a 50 percent stake in Tribeca Enterprises, which runs the Tribeca Film Festival. New York Times: “Among other ventures, Tribeca also runs international film events, a two-screen theater, a digital studio and a fledgling division that releases specialty movies both digitally and in theaters. But its festival, founded as a cultural balm for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, is by far Tribeca’s biggest asset, and the Madison Square Garden Company’s interest says something important about such events: Once largely ad hoc artistic celebrations, some film festivals have, in fact, become promising businesses.” http://nyti.ms/1hkGkfE
2. SEE INSIDE TED’S NEW CUSTOM THEATER: As part of the TED Conference’s move to Vancouver this year, designer David Rockwell created a 1,200-seat theater that was erected inside the city’s convention center and then dismantled until next year. Vanity Fair: “Rockwell, who is known for his restaurants and hotels—think Nobu, Decanter, W Union Square, Chambers—is as good as anybody at expressing the subtleties that define the vibe of a particular place, and he managed to do just that for TED. The theater manages to feel at once like a handmade wooden structure, reflecting the timber-based culture of the Vancouver region and the relaxed air that TED aspires to, and like a high-tech, computer-generated object, which it also is, and which you could say corresponds to the tech-focused side of TED’s identity.” See a time-lapse video of the construction: http://vnty.fr/1hkHXKl

3. THE $10 MILLION COST OF POSTPONING ROLLING STONES TOUR: Music insiders estimate the cost of postponing the Australian leg of the Rolling Stones’s tour—because of the death of Mick Jagger's longtime girlfriend, L'Wren Scott—could cost $10 million. Billboard: “That includes everything from deposits on venues to the storage of gear to lost revenue, though it's possible that some or all of those costs will be covered by insurance policies. … For a cancellation of this sort, insured parties must be able to show that the circumstances were beyond control, and that the act is unable to perform for that reason, says a music industry manager/producer experienced in megatours.” http://bit.ly/1dGFHfz
