August 21, 2014: 'Vanity Fair' Considers New Oscar Party Venue, Tech Entrepreneurs Fight Over Event Names, Would You Pay $16,000 to See the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show?

1. 'VANITY FAIR' CONSIDERS NEW OSCAR PARTY VENUE: After hosting its annual Oscar party in a parking lot this year, Vanity Fair editor in chief Graydon Carter is looking for a new venue. Several sites are under consideration, although the magazine denied that it’s considering the Beverly Hills Hotel, currently the subject of a boycott. E!: "'Graydon asked his staff to come up with some other ideas because he thinks moving from the Sunset Tower hurt the party,' a source tells [E!]. … A rep for Vanity Fair confirms they're relocating the bash from the Sunset Plaza area, but said they were ‘very happy’ with this year's location. ‘[W]e would have gone back except for the fact that it's too complicated for the Plaza's tenants to shut down the parking lot for the time it takes to do the build.’” http://eonli.ne/1ogn6ex

2. TECH ENTREPRENEURS FIGHT OVER EVENT NAMES: Tech Entrepreneurs Elliott Bisnow and Paddy Cosgrave—both named BizBash innovators—are battling each other in a trademark lawsuit tied to the names of their tech events. Bisnow, founder of Summit Series, is suing Cosgrave for his event, variously known as Dublin Web Summit, Web Summit, and the Summit. It came to Las Vegas this year under the name Collision Conference. Irish Times: “According to Summit Series, during his stay [with Bisnow] Cosgrave claimed to have ‘significant connections’ in Europe and proposed to ‘exploit’ these by developing the Summit Series brand on this side of the Atlantic. Discussions led nowhere, and Cosgrave decided to continue with his own event in Dublin. ‘He understood he could not use Summit or Summit Series marks to do so,’ the US company claims.” http://bit.ly/1pNkGZT

3. WOULD YOU PAY $16,000 TO SEE THE VICTORIA’S SECRET FASHION SHOW?: Cornucopia Events, the London-based event company responsible for tickets to the Victoria’s Secret fashion show and after-party, are charing nearly £10,000—or about $16,000—to attend the December 2 event. The Telegraph: “The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is not your average event. Thus, tickets appear to be priced accordingly. … Tickets are exorbitantly priced ‘to keep out the riff raff, essentially’ a source close to the event told The Telegraph. ‘They only want high net worth individuals because along with that normally comes a lot of class and manners.’” http://bit.ly/1pT4l5A
