If you're planning an event with a Mardi Gras or New Orleans theme, the man to call is Blaine Kern Jr., founder of event production company Mardi Gras Productions. Based in New Orleans, this full-service company can supply scenic backdrops, costumes, flowers, props, linens and musical entertainment for an event anywhere in the world--although parties with a Bourbon Street or French Quarter flair are its specialty. Kern has plenty of connections as well: His father, Blaine Kern Sr., began Blaine Kern Artists in 1947, now the most famous Mardi Gras float-making company in the world. Brother Barry is president of Kern Studios, which creates thematic environments and sculptures. Another brother, Brian, oversees Mardi Gras World, an event venue in New Orleans. And Blaine's wife, Tammy, runs Paper Doll Promotions, a model and talent agency.
