The sprawling 16,000-square-foot Spa at the Mandarin Oriental received a 2010 Forbes Five Star Award from Forbes Travel Guide (formerly the Mobil Travel Guide) last month, a little over a year after it opened within the Back Bay hotel. On the property's fourth floor, the spa offers nine treatment rooms—all with natural light—a "vitality pool" with thermal water and hydrotherapy jets, and a crystal steam room.
Two spa suites each hold two people and can be rented for three-hour minimums. The Sanctuary Suite has a private vanity area and personal shower while the 700-square-foot Mandarin Suite has a private tub, stone sauna, and daybed. Catering is available in both rooms during spa after-hours. For groups, simultaneous treatments can be arranged, followed by a lunch for as many as 20 in the Spa Cafe.
Holistic Asian treatments blend Eastern traditions with modern techniques. Among the offerings are the New England Retreat, a massage using local herbs, the Vitamin Infusion Facial, which includes cold stones on the face, and the Rose Indulgence Body Wrap that includes exfoliation with olive grains.
Full buyouts of the spa are considered upon request, and must take place after-hours. Event options range from luncheons for 40 to dinners for 8 in the cafe or concierge space.
Open since October 2008, the 148-room Mandarin Oriental Boston is in a mixed-use complex with the Prudential Center in Back Bay. The property's 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space includes a 4,400-square-foot ballroom that seats 380 guests for banquet-style dinners or holds 750 for receptions.
