Basho, a "Japanese brasserie" with several options for private events and dining, opened in April on Boylston Street, around the corner from Fenway Park. The restaurant, from the owner of Douzo in the Back Bay, is a 7,500-square-foot space that seats 250 across four separate rooms.
Basho's modern, minimalist main dining room features a clean, streamlined look with high-back green banquettes, four communal tables, a wrap-around bar, and floor-to-ceiling windows facing the street. The centerpiece is a glass-enclosed robata grill bar, a traditional Japanese charcoal grill used to cook meat, vegetables, and seafood on bamboo skewers.
A semiprivate dining room, curtained off from the main space, seats 100 guests, while two additional private dining rooms seat 20 and 30, respectively. Also available for events is a 48-seat seasonal patio. Larger groups can book the 190-seat main dining room or buy out the restaurant for 250 guests.
Basho's upscale fusion take on Japanese cuisine features offerings like foie gras sushi with fuji apple, sweet potato, coconut, and wine teryaki soy, a raw bar with daily options from around the world, and robata dishes such as pork belly rolled on asparagus. A variety of event menus are available, and an in-house sommelier oversees the extensive wine and sake menu.
