1. ARCADE FIRE GIVES FANS DRESS CODE FOR CONCERTS: Indie band Arcade Fire is requesting that fans at its concerts wear formal attire or a costume, a dress code that has caused a backlash among critics. Slate: “Asking attendees to dress up might seem to restore an air of specialness to unspecial tour stops at unspecial concrete behemoths that double as ice rinks and basketball courts—but nothing about a routine date in an arena decked out in corporate branding is arty. And demanding that fans old and young scale many flights of steep stairs in ball gowns only to sit in seats possibly soaked with overpriced Bud Light from last night’s hockey game seems less than thoughtful.” http://slate.me/1dbMG59
2. EMMYS MOVE TO ONLINE VOTING: The Primetime Emmy Awards will begin offering online voting for its first round, which determines the nominees, and completely do away with paper ballots for all voting by 2015. Bruce Rosenblum said in a statement. http://bit.ly/I4xY23
3. MAGICIAN SPECIALIZES IN TRADE SHOWS: A magician from Maryland makes his living on the trade show floor doing magic tricks while delivering a company’s message. Fortune 500 companies have signed on as clients, and Mark Phillips has performed at shows such as C.E.S. in Las Vegas. The Guardian: “Once people see how I am able to integrate the message and how attractive it is.
