July 4 not only brought out the fireworks, but also the burgers. Hundreds gathered to watch 20 burger-loving competitors feast at the inaugural Star Spangled Stop Burger Eating Contest held at the Weston Town Center and hosted by Stop Burgers, a dining concept from the Weston Dining Group. The winner, professional eating competitor Pete Czerwinski of Toronto, took home the grand prize of $2,500 after eating eight Original Stop Burgers in 10 minutes.
South Florida radio personality John "Footy" Kross was the M.C., and Cusano's Bakery and the Grand Western of Fort Lauderdale sponsored, while Kip Hunter Marketing led PR and marketing efforts. Judges included Miami Dolphins wide receiver Davone Bess. Spectators were privy to food specials in the town center, as well as pizza and ice cream from local shops also operated by Weston Dining Group.
