 * INCOMING *

1. BECKHAM TO LIGHT OLYMPIC FLAME? The soccer star will not play on Britain's Olympic team, but he could light the flame. Washington Post: "Beckham’s odds of lighting the flame are now 5-1, but he’s still not the favorite: Rower Steve Redgrave and Roger Bannister, the first four-minute miler, are leading the betting." http://wapo.st/NWj90s

How would you imagine that iconic moment? Here's a chance to show off your design chops: We're inviting event designers, producers, marketers, and other creative industry professionals to submit their concepts for the event—ideas for entertainment, set/stage design, lighting, special effects, social media approach, and other components. We'll publish a selection of our favorites on BizBash.com. More details here: bizba.sh/LwKXrs

2. GOOGLE+ SUCCESSES: While the social network from the search giant hasn't been the Facebook killer some had envisioned, more than six months after its launch it's still growing and brands are using it to reach consumers. Mashable chose 10 brands "dominating" on the platform, including ESPN, Burberry, and PlayStation. http://on.mash.to/LDuq5l

But the service has not attracted widespread use and remains a niche social network. Mashable: "Among a select group, G+ is a Facebook replacement and many are on it all day. However, they are part of a rarefied subculture, the equivalent of Deadheads or Phish fans in a Rihanna world. For most, barring a few tech gadflies like Robert Scoble and Tom Anderson, Google+ is an afterthought; a third or fourth social network to keep track of that you can forget about for days or even weeks." http://on.mash.to/LvlbQc

3. BYPASSING TICKETMASTER: Comedian Louis C.K.'s experiment managing his own ticket sales has paid off, with more than 100,000 tickets sold for his latest tour, bringing in $4.5 million in sales. Huffington Post: "The initial sales figures serve to validate C.K.'s self-directed ticketing model, as more comedians and other performers consider cutting out corporate middlemen in ticket sales. C.K. is charging a flat rate of $45 for tickets without the fees or service charges common to Ticketmaster. But deciding not to use the ticketing services means C.K. will have to perform standup in many non-Ticketmaster-contracted venues on his 39-city tour. And he is skipping some notable American cities." http://huff.to/KPaFbp

4. NEW ROLLING STONES LOGO: Shepard Fairey, the street artist who designed President Obama's "Hope" poster, designed the Rolling Stones's 50th-anniversary logo. The band debuted the updated version of its iconic tongue-and-lips logo on its Web site in advance of a major tour planned next year. Los Angeles Times: http://lat.ms/OzIfmS

5. ADA UPGRADES: Civil rights investigators reached a settlement with Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York to correct accessibility failures it said violated the Americans With Disabilities Act. New York Times: "Lincoln Center agreed to install additional wheelchair seating, including locations closer to the stage, seats with removable armrests, Braille signs and an automatic door to the balcony. The center will also renovate food and retail areas as well as add accessible parking locations, all over the next year and a half. No fine was imposed. Center officials said the hall would not need to be closed for any extended period of time during the renovations." http://nyti.ms/LH5xr6
