Cosmetics company M.A.C. is known for its eye-popping colors and expert makeup artists, but it also lends its name to raise money and awareness for its AIDS fund. Liz Aguilar, manager of the South Beach store, and David Marvel, the store's resident makeup artist, teamed with Mynt Lounge marketing director Ernesto Arambatzis and assistant director Tara Klenovich to host the fund's first silent auction benefit in South Florida.
The lounge's front window became the setting for a peep show of sorts. A team of makeup artists applied body paint to two models—one dressed à la Betty Page in a black retro bathing suit and fishnets, the other in a modern two-piece lingerie set. The scene drew attention from guests inside and passersby outside.
Auction tables lined the left wall of the lounge and included items from Paul Mitchell, Godiva, Von Dutch, Touch, and the Omni Colonnade Hotel. Thirty employees from stores around South Florida left their brushes behind and donated their time to man the silent auction. Dancing to the beats spun by the lounge's DJ, the auction attendants' infectious energy lured many to browse the items up for grabs.
Bacardi and Mynt also donated the bar service for the evening, shaking up "Viva Glam" cocktails, named after the popular lipstick M.A.C. created specifically for its AIDS fund.
A stiltwalker from CircX mingled with the crowd to get guests to empty their pockets into a black top hat. The event raised more than $9,000 for the fund.
