When the skies opened up and put an abrupt end to the much-anticipated Bobby Flay and Friends Moët & Chandon BubbleQ, held on the beach behind the Delano hotel, guests left or took cover under small tents that were meant to house grilling stations. But what would become of the Belvedere's The Beautiful Life after-party, which was to be held post-BubbleQ, around the pool at the National Hotel?
Although it seemed unlikely, Touch Catering, hired by Moët Hennessy USA to create the after-party, and the National staff banded together to make the seemingly doomed event happen. Although the original outdoor Winter Wonderland theme, which included snow machines, furniture groupings, a 22-foot-long ice bar lit blue from within, and numerous ice sculptures, was ready to go, last-minute conditions brought the party into one of the hotel's indoor event spaces.
Hard-bodied men and gorgeous girls scantily clad in little white bathing suits and furry white boots were the only remnant of the Winter Wonderland theme. They welcomed wet guests into the warm, dry room, where cocktails made with various flavors of Belvedere vodka were abundant. All of a sudden the near fiasco turned into the fiesta it was originally intended to be.
