The ever-popular phrase "Shaken, not stirred" was on the lips of every attendee at the Baptist Hospital White Diamond Ball at the Radisson Hotel Miami on November 3. More than 500 guests spent an evening amongst the glitz, glamour, and intrigue befitting notorious English spy James Bond.
Lori Elsbree of the Baptist Health South Florida Foundation worked closely with Ricky Martinez from Strike a Pose Design to create an evening draped in shades of white with dramatic accents of rhinestones, silver, and crystal. Members of the board, hospital staff, and guests attended the annual event to raise money to renovate the hospital's emergency room.Upon entering the cocktail reception, guests mingled with the evening's M.C., Bond himself-or rather, a Sean Connery look-alike in a tuxedo. Planners created a sleek lounge with bold black and white fabrics and modern modular furniture, courtesy of Panache: A Classic Party Rentals Company. In the center of it all was a custom-built five-foot cube elevating a swanky piano bar surrounded by 24 bar stools. Dramatic purple lighting, provided by Armadillo Sound, offset the graphic black and white decor. Since no J007-themed party would be complete without a Bond girl, Galaxy Productions provided models, whose silhouettes were illuminated as they danced behind white draping.
Inside the ballroom, tables were topped with centerpieces designed to create the illusion of a waterfall of diamonds. For dinner, hotel chefs created a menu reflecting the event's adventurous theme, with entrées such as the Diamonds Are Forever salad and the Casino Royale crab cakes. Even water goblets received the white-diamond treatment, with clear LED cube lights in each glass.
Following dinner, partygoers danced the night away to the sounds of Gemini, a full-orchestra band specializing in classic favorites and modern hits. Before leaving, each attendee received a crystal paperweight provided by Buchwald Jewelers.
