Mercedes-Benz Miami Fashion Week Swim kicked off Thursday with a university-themed Diesel Swim fashion show and after-party at the Raleigh Hotel, home to the annual swimwear fashion week. Christina Neault, associate producer of IMG Fashion, worked with Diesel and the Relevent Group L.L.C. in New York to produce and coordinate the event, which attracted nearly 700 fashion enthusiast, journalists, photographers, and special guests. Attendees crowded the pool deck to watch models strut down the long acrylic runway that Fortrex Structures constructed over the center of the Raleigh's pool.
The university theme was evident throughout the space through elements like the branded, oversize pillows arranged on the beds and loungers around the pool and Diesel pennants framing the cabanas. Even the models were incorporated into the theme-in addition to sporting Diesel's 2009 swimwear collection, each wore accessories illustrating a different type of college student. From the bookworm model in glasses and a tie to the football player sporting shoulder pads and the baseball player carrying a bat, the most common stereotypes were all present.Following the show, guests headed to the beach and cabana area behind the pool for the official after-party and Fashion Week kickoff event. There, guests relaxed on comfy loungers and even more oversize Diesel-branded pillows, which sported graffiti reading, "School's out FOREVER!!"
When it came it entertainment, DJ Lorenzo spun the latest dance mixes from a glowing branded DJ booth. A favorite pastime among many college students was also incorporated into the after-hours entertainment in the form of branded beer funnels, beer pong tables, and Ping-Pong balls.
