Do you hear that jingling sound? It's not sleigh bells. It's money in the pockets of New York's special events industry. As a party-packed 2000 comes to a close, events planners and vendors are racing to finish a month stuffed with events: In addition to all the public holiday events and New Year's Eve parties, there are reams of corporate holiday parties all month. We hear many venues are packing in a few of these a day. Here's a sample of who's going where:
Publishing companies Hearst and VNU are both at Tavern on the Green. Conde Nast took its top execs to lunch at the Four Seasons. While Primedia is going traditional at the Marriott Marquis, TV Guide is swinging at hip Lotus. The Post is taking its gossips to Jack Rose. Hachette Filipacchi's party is at the Plaza.
More: Ziff Davis at Boils Studio. Bloomberg at the Museum of Natural History. Harris Publications at Bryant Park Grill. Working Woman at Punch.
Oxygen Media is staying in its building and going to the Chelsea Market. Likewise, Skadden Arps will be in its conference room overlooking Times Square; fellow legal eagles Brown & Wood are going to Windows on the World.
Ad firms: DDB at Bridgewaters. Deutsch Inc. at Milk Studios. Lyons Lavey Nickel Swift Inc. at Etoile. PR giant Rubenstein Associates is at Le Parker Meridien.
And where are the financial services companies spending their bull market cash? Deloitte & Touche at Hammerstein Ballroom. PaineWebber at Cipriani 42nd Street. Goldman Sachs at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Bear Stearns Asset Management at China Club.
