Fashion Week Stays at Bryant Park

Posted 06.18.01
The fashionistas have found a home! At the Council of Fashion Designers of America's (CFDA) American Fashion awards at Avery Fisher Hall last week, council president Stan Herman announced that the group had finalized negotiations to hold the September fashion shows in Bryant Park (where the CFDA's show producing arm, 7th on Sixth, has held the shows for years). The location was in question because this year's shows have been scheduled much earlier than normal to avoid conflicting with Jewish holidays Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The change has caused problems because the park's management didn't want to close the public park for the shows so close to Labor Day. Meanwhile, as Fashion Wire Daily reported last week, production company Bureau Betak has booked the 69th Regiment Armory on Lexington Avenue and 26th Street for fashion week.
