An Oscar for Airstar Inventor

When the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences holds its Scientific and Technical awards presentation at a ceremony at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel on March 1, Pierre Chabert, Airstar lighting balloon inventor and president and CEO of Airstar Space Lighting, will be presented with a special Oscar for "the introduction of balloons with internal light sources to provide lighting for the motion picture industry," according to a press release. The balloons are also frequently used as decor and lighting for special events. In 1996, the lighting balloons were used by Titanic director James Cameron to mimic moonlight for nighttime scenes of the ship sinking.
