It's been 13 years since a new casino opened in Atlantic City, so the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has to build some momentum for its big opening, slated for this summer. The casino's owners—MGM Mirage and Boyd Gaming—threw a splashy party for press and analysts at the Supper Club to preview the cuisines of the 11 restaurants that will reside inside Borgata.
Produced by Jodi Wolf of Chicago-based Paulette Wolf Events & Entertainment, the event began with a cocktail hour inside the Supper Club's King Kong Room, where hors d'oeuvres prepared by the featured chefs were passed with champagne and special cocktails created by Borgata's sommeliers. A mirrored Borgata sign suspended against a sunny yellow curtain and surrounded by spinning sun-shaped light projections gave the room a warm, summery glow—a comforting atmosphere considering the sub-freezing temperatures outside. Following cocktails, guests moved into the main dining room, where clear acrylic banquet tables covered with white tablecloths were underlit by color-shifting lights. MC Bill Boggs of the Food Network introduced Borgata's restaurant team, beginning with Victor Tiffany, Borgata's vice president of food and beverage, whose resume includes co-developing Tribeca Grill and San Francisco's Rubicon with the Myriad Restaurant Group.
Other notable New Yorkers included Marc and Greg Sherry, who will open a branch of their famed Old Homestead Steakhouse at the Borgata. They were followed by sommeliers Steven Olson and David Gordon, who developed wine lists for restaurants like Tribeca Grill and Gramercy Tavern, and Paladar's Aaron Sanchez, who will open Mixx, a Latin and Asian fusion restaurant and nightclub, with co-chef Edwyn Ferrari of Nobu. A slice of the casino's sex appeal was provided by up-and-coming fashion designer Zac Posen, who showed off the uniform he designed especially for the cocktail waitresses dubbed the "Borgata Babes." Classy.
