DECOR: Show Off an Inner Glow

Here’s a departure from the usual wicks and sticks—the Lumenae candle from Design Ideas is a frosted white pillar with a hollow bottom that fits over an L.E.D. base. Powered by a nine-volt battery, the L.E.D. illuminates the white wax from within with various colors. The wicks can also be lit and do not affect the color display that happens below—and they don’t burn all the way down, so the base is safe from the flame. The tallest pillar measures nine inches high and retails for $18, including the base; the candles are available in three different heights.
