There have been quite a few rumors surrounding the Puck Building lately: In March Curbed.com revealed that the lobby of the event space is being renovated by architectural firm Gerner Kronick & Valcarcel, and New York magazine's blog heard that Beatrice Inn owners Matt Abramcyk and Paul Sevigny might open a club in the basement of the SoHo site. Now comes official news that the ballroom will be closing for a short period early next yea to allow for some refurbishment to the space.

In a press release sent yesterday afternoon, Danny Meyer's Hudson Yards Catering announced that the 10,000-square-foot grand ballroom of the historic site will undergo a renovation beginning January 4. The restoration, designed to "return the Puck's Grand Ballroom to its splendor," is scheduled to be completed by spring 2009, with the site reopening May 1. Between now and January, the ballroom can still be booked for events, and the skylight room will be available throughout. In other Meyer-related news, the Hudson Yards will also cater at one of the events in the Ross School's event series this summer. The event in East Hampton is will be a food and wine showcase from Meyer's restaurant and joins other programs in the series that range from a Jonas Brothers concert on August 9 to a theater showcase on August 18 involving Broadway performers.
