In a letter to the fashion community last week, designer and Council of Fashion Designers of America president Diane von Furstenberg pressed her peers to forgo being fashionably late to the shows this year. Women’s Wear Daily reported this morning that von Furstenberg faulted both designers and guests with the increasingly lengthy hold-ups during recent Fashion Week presentations.

"Please make every effort to start your show no later than 10 minutes after the hour," she urged designers. "If guests know that shows are expected to start on time, they will make an effort to arrive accordingly." Von Furstenberg went on to call out guests for taking their sweet time before sitting down: “Please take your seat quickly, so that designers are not forced to hold the 'start of show' based on their guests' arrivals."To lessen the inconvenient delays at Fashion Week, she further suggested that smaller collections consider a relaxed presentation format, without the punctual constrictions of a typical catwalk showcase.

The letter also reminded designers and guests to mark their calendars. Starting in 2009, New York Fashion Week will start every second Friday of February and September. The next installment bows September 5.
