Just nine months after the death of Alexander McQueen, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute revealed that it will pay tribute to the late designer with its spring 2011 show, entitled "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty." Announced on Wednesday, the museum's iconic May exhibition will highlight McQueen's contributions to fashion through a 100-look retrospective that traces his career from his Saint Martins postgraduate collection in 1992 to the final runway presentation that took place following his death in February.
Before the exhibition opens to the public on May 4, the Costume Institute will celebrate the debut with its annual fund-raiser, to be co-chaired by Colin Firth, Stella McCartney, and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, with François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek serving as the evening's honorary chairs. Sam Gainsbury and Joseph Bennett, the production designers for Alexander McQueen's fashion shows and creative consultants for the exhibition, will create the design for the benefit with Raúl Àvila.
