1. GOOGLE AT CANNES: We hear from our far-flung correspondent in France that Google is impressing attendees at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity this week with a "Creative Sandbox" promotion set up on the beach outside the festival proper (where Microsoft is a big sponsor). Google is showing off some of its offerings in a relaxed, beach-club-style atmosphere. Field Marketing says Flourish Creative is producing:
The Cannes Lions site also has videos from the presentations:

2. CRITICIZING THE CRITICS' CHOICE: The Hollywood Reporter has good things to say about the inaugural Critics' Choice Television Awards on Monday: "For a first-time show, the fast-paced afternoon event at the Beverly Hills Hotel was a success on a number of levels." One mistake: "stopping the program about two-thirds of the way through for an intermission so the waiters could clear the tables and bring out desert. By then it was well into the afternoon and much of the Hollywood crowd took that as a cue to exit." Curious? Watch the Reelz Channel telecast Thursday.

3. VENDOR SCUFFLE IN THE U.K.: London-based Event magazine: "The company that last year tore down hundreds of websites following Event pressure has again appeared to fall foul of over-enthusiastic website creators, this time using images of event industry acts without their permission. ES Promotions, which took over The Entertainment Group last year, has been accused by event industry professionals of not only using images illegally but also continuing to respond to emails addresses that are similar to other agencies."

4. SOCIAL MEDIA MILESTONE: Foursquare hit the 10 million user mark over the weekend, becoming the first location-based social network to do so. Are you on it yet, figuring out how to use it for events? Mashable has an infographic about users and what they're doing:

The deadline for nominations for the first BizBash Readers' Choice Awards in Chicago has been extended to June 28. You can nominate event pros in categories including Caterer of the Year, Event Producer of the Year, and Lighting Designer of the Year here:

Great Hotels of the World, the London-based hotel sales and marketing alliance has reported a 19% increase in corporate travel bookings via its GDS chain code in the first quarter of 2011 in comparison with the same period in 2010, offering signs of growth in the corporate travel market.

BOSTON: Local ice cream company Emack & Bolio's will deliver ice cream pizzas to offices and event spaces this summer. Made with brownies, ice cream, and chocolate, the goods are delivered via a custom motorcycle known as the "Cosmic Cruiser." Each pizza serves about 12 guests.

Set to hit Revere Beach from July 14 to 17, the National Sand Sculpting Festival will showcase the work of 14 sand sculptors. Food, entertainment, kid-friendly activities, and fireworks will also be on offer.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores will host its marketplace conference at the Boston Exhibition and Convention Center from June 25 to 28.

CHICAGO: A 168-foot-tall hot air balloon shaped like a Select 55 beer bottle will land at the Taste of Chicago this weekend as part of a 55-city national tour.

In conjunction with its fifth anniversary, the James Hotel will update its furnishings and in-room amenities, and introduce new eco-friendly services including a car service that uses clean diesel technology.

LAS VEGAS: Condé Nast Traveler recognized Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars Palace as one of the “Top 100 Resort Spas” in the U.S. Mainland category in the June 2011 issue.

LOS ANGELES: The Hollywood Bowl officially launched its 90th season with a sold out Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame and opening night concert Friday. This year’s inductees were Harry Connick Jr. and Gloria Estefan, who joined presenters Hilary Swank, Andy Garcia, and Helen Mirren. The event included a sneak preview of Cirque du Soleil’s first resident production in Los Angeles, "Iris, a Journey Through the World of Cinema."

The Hollywood Reporter takes a deeper look at the academy's new move to honor between five and 10 movies in the Oscar best picture category:

MIAMI: Fab C Productions presents the third annual "Go Green Fashionista" Saturday night at Mia at Biscayne. The fashion show will feature eco-friendly fashions and accessories while guests snack on organic appetizers and juices from EcoMarket, T.H.R.I.V.E., Atomic Juices, Zija, and others.

NEW YORK: Tonight's an industry party night. In addition to Bowen & Company's party at the Andaz 5th Avenue (which we mentioned yesterday), there are these two:

* MKG is hosting a "Too Cool for Pool" party in its SoHo offices, with recording artist MDNR performing.

* New York Water Taxi is marking its 10th anniversary and founder Tom Fox's retirement with a party tonight at Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club (formerly Water Taxi Beach, South Street Seaport).

Also tonight: Spin and Lacoste are hosting a party on the magazine's rooftop space with a performance by the Cults and drinks sponsored by Reyka and Corona.

Ferrari-Maserati of Long Island and caterer Elegant Affairs hosted a party to show off their event space on June 2. “The Experience” is the dealer’s second-floor, 7,000-square-foot showroom in Plainview, New York, with floor to ceiling windows, an outdoor space, and a car elevator.

The Post: "A convention complex could be coming to Queens, right next to the soon-to-open slots casino at Aqueduct Race Track."

ORLANDO: Cirque du Soleil is bringing its touring production, "Dralion," to the U.C.F. Arena September 21 through 25. The show is based on Chinese acrobatic arts and features 50 acrobats, gymnasts, musicians, and singers.

Hoping to collect 500 units of blood in one day, donors were invited to roll up their sleeves on the floor of Air Canada Centre. Athletes and team mascots were in attendance and donors had the chance to win autographed items and prizes.
