February 6, 2019: Congresswomen Send Political Message to Trump By Wearing White at State of the Union, Ariana Grande Backs Out of Grammys Over Disagreement With Producers, New York Begins CBD Purge at Restaurants and Bars

1. CONGRESSWOMEN SEND POLITICAL MESSAGE TO TRUMP BY WEARING WHITE AT STATE OF THE UNION: During Tuesday's State of the Union, there was a sea of female lawmakers wearing all-white outfits, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Before the event, the House Democratic Women's Working Group had encouraged women lawmakers to wear white to show solidarity for the women's suffrage movement. CNN: "Democrats taking part included newly-elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, who was seen wearing a white cape, and Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, who wore a white vest and trousers paired with a blue hijab and red shirt. Even Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota joined the rallying call, turning up to the House Chamber in a white jacket with black lapels, and a button reading "ERA yes," (a reference to the Equal Rights Amendment). Ribbons were reportedly handed out to the less fashion-forward men. The move laid bare the contrast between the two parties, creating a palpable divide in the chamber while drawing attention to Melania and Ivanka's choice of black outfits." https://cnn.it/2Tybnjm

2. ARIANA GRANDE BACKS OUT OF GRAMMYS OVER DISAGREEMENT WITH PRODUCERS: Ariana Grande will no longer be performing at the Grammys on Sunday because of a disagreement with producers over which songs she would perform. The "Thank U, Next" singer has been featured on Grammys promotional billboards throughout Los Angeles. Variety: "An insider tells Variety that Grande felt 'insulted' after producers initially refused to allow her to perform '7 Rings,' the latest single from her forthcoming album Thank U, Next (which arrives Friday, two days before the Grammys). A compromise was reached whereby '7 Rings' would be part of a medley, but Grande pulled out after producers insisted that the second song be of their choosing. The source added that such stipulations were not imposed on other performers at the show. ... The situation is more than a little similar to the impasse the Grammys reached with Lorde last year, whereby they declined to let her perform a song from her Melodrama album—one of the five Album of the Year nominees—and instead offered her a spot during the show’s Tom Petty tribute, which she declined." https://bit.ly/2UKIsbN

3. NEW YORK BEGINS CBD PURGE AT RESTAURANTS AND BARS: New York is cracking down on food and drinks infused with cannabidiol (CBD), a cannabis compound credited as a wellness product. The Department of Health said bars, restaurants, and other venues can’t sell CBD-infused edibles, explaining it’s not “safe as a food additive” according to federal guidance. The department began banning products in January. Eater: “The directive follows news on Monday that Gramercy Park restaurant Fat Cat Kitchen was forced to stop selling CBD-laced cookies and other pastries. Owner C.J. Holm said that the rule nixed a huge portion of her business. On Friday, the state of Maine also banned CBD edibles, similarly pointing to federal guidance that does not recognize CBD-laced foods as safe. This will impact an increasingly robust market in New York, one that’s following a national swell of CBD food and drink sales.” https://bit.ly/2HSckli
