Last weekend went to the dogs: Feeling like an extra in Best of Show, we attended Iris Love and Liz Smith's oddly titled Westminster Dog Show, Show Dogs in General and Dachshunds in Particular event at Tavern on the Green. Not unlike a canine version of the Save Venice masked ball held the same weekend, the event included guests wearing extravagant costumes. Love was attired in a dashing Viking outfit while her beloved dachshund Ajax, who was the featured guest, wore a fabulous Viking cap complete with blond wig and a flowing blue cape. (It is fashion week, after all.)
Non-canine guests included dog-loving celebrities Ivana Trump, Judge Judy Sheindlin (with her dog LuLu), WNBC anchor Sue Simmons (with her pooch Jazzy) and Smith's fellow Post gossip Cindy Adams, who hosted a similar doggie event earlier in the day at Doyle New York with her furry friend, who is also named Jazzy.
All the dogs were on their best behavior. But if you're thinking of throwing Fifi's next birthday party at Tavern, think again: The restaurant's official policy doesn't allow dogs. "We only do this for Liz and Iris," a Tavern executive told us.
