After the loss of Windows on the World, the Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center is one of the few places left that offers the public a breathtaking, panoramic view of New York. For the past few years, event planners at the New York City Opera have held its Night at the Auction benefit at the Four Seasons restaurant, but this year they decided to celebrate the city's beauty with a venue change.
Event co-chair and interior designer Susan Zises Green brought in Jody Perlberger to provide the centerpieces of peonies, protea and hydrangea for the dining room, where the live auction—officiated by Sotheby's Hugh Hildesley—was held. Among the prized live auction lots were a Botswana safari, a walk-on part in NYCO's fall production of La Traviata and a BMW motorcycle. The auction raised $300,000 for the opera.
