Cotton Inc.—the group behind those cutesy "fabric of our lives" ads—gave a pep rally for cotton growers and manufacturers at its annual Celebration of American Style party at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The night's highlight was an upbeat fashion show that promoted the use of cotton by showcasing cotton frocks from labels like Perry Ellis and Lily Pulitzer in the Grace Rainey Rogers auditorium. DSA Productions produced the flashy 40-minute show, which ended with models in Bill Blass walking down the runway to intense drummbeat music while floor-to-ceiling shadowboxes (created by placing live dancers between a light and a screen) enlivened the stage. A large Cotton Inc. logo and clips from the group's current ad campaign were projected on the runway's backdrop during breaks between designers.
After the show, Restaurant Associates served dinner in the Temple of Dendur, where Frost Lighting cast midnight blue light over the room and Met manager of special events Chris Giftos created a black-and-white dining area accented with silver dinnerware.
