The advertising, design and new media industries' creative crème de la crème were honored for creative achievement at the week-long One Show Festival. And after a student exhibition, a portfolio review and even a film festival, the ad-types finally got their accolades, at the One Show Interactive awards celebration at the Dia Center for the Arts' Annex. (Later, on Friday at the festival's culminating awards event, the One Show, 800 guests took over the World Financial Center's Winter Garden at the for dinner and awards.)
Produced by One Club interactive director Kevin Swanepoel and Joseph Cady of Joseph Cady Events, the awards ceremony was held in an modern, expansive raw space that suited the creative, forward-thinking advertising being honored. White walls and white mattress-like banquettes in the cocktail area contrasted with bright red carpet and red roses and black tablecloths and black chairs. Four giant video screens lined the walls. The effect was bold and energizing, without feeling overly masculine. The color scheme "just fit well in the space, which was all clean and white," Cady said.
The 325 guests also found two Yahoo-branded stations: One with an overstuffed, purple "Yahoo Big Idea" chair where guests could be photographed; and a significantly more popular "Yahoo Creative Juice Bar," with specialty cocktails (including the "Grape Idea" martini made with vodka, grape juice and a purple sugar rim).
Because there was no dinner, Cady's hors d'oeuvres were on the hearty side, and included two carving stations serving barbecue beef brisket on rolls and turkey with basil aioli on crostini. Butlered hors d'oeuvres included crab cakes, spicy summer rolls and grilled vegetable focaccia. At the tables where guests sat for the awards presentation, pre-set bottles of water and red wine, as well as snack mix and chocolates, prevented the need for caterwaiters to interrupt the ceremony to take drink orders.
