JLO Show Lights Up for MTV
Possibly the most anticipated event of February's Fashion Week was Jennifer Lopez's first runway show in the Bryant Park tents. Bureau Betak produced the show, which also aired on an MTV special. Alexandre de Betak, the show's creative director, and lighting director Philippe Cerceau worked with MTV's Tom Kenny on a light scheme that would show off the clothes well to both live and TV audiences. Two rows of track lights flooded the runway with white light, and neon designs, created by Let There Be Neon, provided bright backdrops that showcased the clothes.
Jeans Launch With Cool Projections
Hairstylist Sally Hershberger launched her own denim collection with a party at her downtown salon during Fashion Week. Called Shagg Downtown—after the haircut she's most famous for—the collection was feted with images from Shagg's look-book projected onto the salon's stark white walls. The salon's managers put together the minimalist-minded display with projectors and slides.
Baby Phat Shows Its Stripes
Elegant and simple aren't words often attributed to Baby Phat founder Kimora Lee Simmons, but for her runway show at Skylight, the catwalk was just that. Lee Sippola, Baby Phat's vice president of marketing, hired Bernhard-Link to create a Lucite runway with an opaque look. Beneath the surface, Color Kinetics' six-inch LED light rods gave the runway a striped look and shifted hues throughout the show, interacting with the strutting models.
MSNBC Bathes Performers in Washes of Color
MSNBC threw a party at the Gibson Guitar Showroom to mark the launch of two new entertainment shows. Frost Lighting highlighted the stage area (later used for performances by Shooter Jennings, Regina Spektor, and Martin Luther) with patterned and color-changing projections, shone the MSNBC logo on the walls, and projected a promotional video of the shows onto the rear wall of the stage.
Armani Fragrance Launch Has Jewel Tones
L'Oreal's Michael Jorgensen and Giorgio Armani Parfums' Kelly McNamara worked with Event Designs New York to create a spare, elegant lounge inside the Newspace for the launch of the new Armani Black Code scent. Purple light bathed the walls, and underlit glass cocktail tables glowed violet. Giant images of the fragrance bottle and an ad still were projected on the walls.
