Only the James Beard Foundation's annual awards ceremony gets the kind of big-name chef turnout the launch of the Michelin Guide to New York City got at the Guggenheim. Alain Ducasse, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Thomas Keller, and Eric Ripert, all the proud new recipients of a coveted three-star Michelin rating, joined Daniel Boulud, Wylie Dufresne, Terrance Brennan, Drew Nieporent, Danny Meyer, Anita Lo, Todd English, Martha Stewart, and approximately 600 restaurant and food industry guests to mark the guide’s American debut. After short remarks by director of Michelin Guides, Jean-Luc Naret, and chairman and president of Michelin North America, Jim Micali, a single-file line of T&L Events caterwaiters dressed in white shirts, lack ties and pants, and white aprons printed with the Michelin logo walked down the Guggenheim’s spiraling ramp to deliver stacks of the guide on silver trays. The crowd eagerly snapped up all 1,000 of the numbered guides that were brought to the event.
