Development in Atlantic City is booming and in the next few years the New Jersey town will have even more venues, including a space solely for events. Here's a look at what's coming:
Slated for a summer 2009 opening, One Atlantic is a dedicated event space that will be located at the end of the Pier Shops at Caesars, extending 100 yards over the ocean. With 10,000 square feet of space, the site will offer floor-to-ceiling windows, an outdoor terrace, and a flexible main room. Catering will be managed by Jon Weinrott, founder of Philadelphia’s Peachtree & Ward, and on-site event management and planning will be provided by the Icon Group.
The MGM Mirage plans to build a 3,000-room resort on 72 acres of land next to the Borgata. Slated for completion in 2012, the MGM Grand Atlantic City will include the largest casino floor in town, a 1,500-seat theater, and 500,000 square feet of retail space. There will be plenty for events, too: MGM’s proposal also includes restaurants, nightclubs, a spa, and a convention center.
Revel Entertainment is constructing a $2 billion beachfront resort on 20 acres of land at the north end of the boardwalk. The planned complex is to include 3,800 rooms, more than 150,000 square feet of casino space, a 5,500-seat theater, a private beach, and meeting facilities. The project broke ground in early 2008 and is expected to be complete in 2011.
Pinnacle Entertainment, a Las Vegas-based gaming and entertainment company, bought the Sands Casino Hotel and its surrounding property in 2006 with plans to build its own resort. The Sands building, which closed in November 2006, was demolished in fall 2007. In its place, Pinnacle is erecting a $1.2 billion resort scheduled to open in 2012.
