An upscale restaurant chain with more than 25 locations in the Middle East and North Africa opened its first U.S. location December 1, steps from Dupont Circle. Specializing in meat and vegetable kebabs cooked on a charcoal grill, the 4,500-square-foot, 144-seat Kababji Grill serves Lebanese cuisine. Chefs prepare the dishes just inside the entrance at a massive conical brick-and-stainless-steel grill.
The spacious U-shaped interior is both rustic and contemporary, with walls of caramel-colored stone, dark wood paneling, and tile-topped tables and booths. Cocktails, including specialties from the homeland such as anise-flavored arak, are served in the bar and lounge, where floor-to-ceiling windows give a view of busy Connecticut Avenue. The main dining room, in the rear of the restaurant, has a 112-bottle wine display across one wall as well as amber-colored pendant lights.
Kababji is available for full buyout.
