Jell-O shots are not appropriate for many types of events, but for certain crowds they can add a fun element to the typical open bar. And when made with fresh ingredients, they're a far cry from what you might find in a frat house. The Jello Shot Girl makes her own spiked gelatin in inventive flavor combinations such as pear nectar with lemon and vodka, blueberry mojito (fresh blueberries, mint, sugar, lime, and rum), mulled wine, and iced chocolate Irish coffee (espresso, crème de cacao, whiskey, and cream). For something stronger, she combines 192-proof alcohol with actual Jell-O, which she says provides enough concentrated flavor to stand up to the spirits. The shots, which are generally $2 to $3 each, can be ordered in single-serving plastic containers or in small square slices that can be served on a tray for a more refined look. Wholesale shots are also available in large tubs, which can be scooped out on site. There is a $50 minimum; delivery in Manhattan or Brooklyn is free for orders of $100 or more. A week's notice is recommended for large orders.
