At the crossroads of Greenwich Village, NoHo, and the East Village, the upscale and cozy Bahr Ché is a convenient but easy-to-miss hideaway—the spot sits at the foot of the Gwathmey Siegel-designed glass tower at Astor Place, but its entrance is on Cooper Square. The wine and charcuterie bar from former Wall Street executive Camille Glickman is modern but comfortable, with a design by architect Richard Bloch. Open from 10 a.m. until midnight Wednesday through Sunday (and until 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday), the site is suited for small business gatherings or private events.
The interior design is simple, with a few whimsical elements added, including a 14-foot-high ceiling covered in metal mesh and hung with glass and a 1,500-bottle wall of wine set behind the bar. The layout is roomy, with 20 seats available at tables, 15 at the bar, and eight in a lounge area. The space is offered for event rental and holds as many as 70 people for receptions or 40 seated.
In addition to a selection of wine and beer, Bahr Ché offers gourmet tidbits from local shops. This includes organic and farmstead cheese from Murray's, charcuterie and foie gras from D'Artagnan, sweet and savory pastries from Bouchon Bakery, and cakes from Black Hound New York.
