Quilty's head chef Katy Sparks and Chris Hanna of the Hanna Winery in Sonoma, Calif., hosted a food and wine tasting benefit at the restaurant's upstairs loft space for the hunger charity Share Our Strength (SOS). The event was attended by 70 guests, and raised $7,000 for the nonprofit.
Sparks, who was named one of Food & Wine magazine's top 10 chefs in America in 1998, prepared seared tenderloin with herb and caper pesto dipping sauce; wild mushroom and potato quesadillas; and soft shell crab tempura, among other delectable dishes, in a big, open kitchen adjacent to the dining area. Hanna provided several varieties of wine from her family's award-winning winery.
Quilty's co-owners Jason Ungar, Sam Roberts and Jim English have been offering the loft as a special event space for nearly a year. The space, which genuinely feels more like someone's home than an event space, can accommodate 50 for a sit-down dinner, and 100 for a cocktail party. Prices range from $80 to $150 per person for a cocktail party with chef Sparks' hors d'oeuvres, or $120 to $200 per person for a three-course sit-down dinner and open bar. An outdoor deck with a great view of the downtown skyline is included in the rental.
