Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide
announced plans today to open a 195-room Westin in National Harbor in Maryland’s
Prince George’s County in the spring of 2008. The hotel joins the 2,000-room Gaylord
National Resort & Convention Center on the 300-acre
mixed-use development, which is within 10 miles of downtown
Washington, Arlington, and Alexandria. Westin National Harbor will have 2,100
square feet of meeting space and 8,000 square feet of retail space. Also on
tap: a Reebok Gym and harborside runs guided by the Westin’s running concierge.Four other hotel properties will be a part of
the $2 billion National Harbor development when it opens next year, including a
186-room Aloft (also a Starwood concept), a 162-room Marriott Residence Inn, a
151-room Hampton Inn & Suites (a Hilton concept), and a 250-room Fairfield
Resorts time-share property.
Water-shuttle service from the harbor to Old Town, Georgetown, and Mount Vernon will be available, with plans for additional routes to Reagan National Airport and the Washington Nationals' new baseball stadium. The development will also feature 10 upscale restaurants (including McCormick & Schmick’s), a 42-acre grassy park, 6,000 parking spaces, and 24-hour on-site security.
