Vera Wang's runway show during Fashion Week in September

It looks like the weak economy has affected Fashion Week after all. Many designers, including Vera Wang and J.Mendel, are now considering cheaper, cost-effective alternatives to catwalk productions, and Women's Wear Daily reported yesterday (in a story available online to subscribers only) that DKNY is scrapping its traditional runway show in favor of a presentation scheduled for Friday, February 13.
Ruth Finley, president of the Fashion Calendar, which lists Fashion Week events and shows, confirmed the change to WWD: "There will definitely be more presentations rather than runway shows," she said.
