The decor at the Museum of Modern Art's Party in the Garden was simple, eschewing themes in favor of elements that complemented the building's clean and elegant design. More than 1,000 guests turned up for the Gucci-sponsored 38th annual benefit, which raised $2.8 million for the museum and this year honored Joan Tisch and Sarah Jessica Parker. The museum's special events team, led by director of special programming and events Nicholas Apps, worked with floral designer Raul Avila and Kadan Productions to create the minimalist look. For the cocktail hour, cube-shaped boxes overflowing with green hydrangeas dotted the all-white lounge furnished with boxy ottomans, loungers, and cocktail tables in the Abby Aldrich Sculpture Garden. Kadan Productions built carpeted platforms covering two of the pools, and stairlike seating structures beside the elevated stage gave guests more space to lounge. Similarly the dinner area (in the lobby) was free of fussy touches: white linens and chairs were offset by centerpieces of peonies in shades of red, pink, and coral that added some color to the room.
At the after-party, a livelier, younger set joined dinner guests for more food, dancing, and a live performance by Grammy-winning musician John Legend.
Glorious Food served pigs in a blanket, smoked salmon roulade, and seared tuna on a rice wafer with wasabi sauce during the cocktail hour. Dinner consisted of white and green.phparagus with hollandaise sauce to start; chicken scaloppine in lemon sauce with fingerling potatoes, arugula, and red and yellow tomatoes for the main course; and strawberry rhubarb pie with strawberry ice cream as dessert. And at the after-party the buffet stations included miniature hamburgers, chicken and beef satays, and wild mushroom quesadillas as well as mini brownies, pecan tartlets, and butterscotch Ă©clairs.
