On May 6, the PGA Tour held a special outer-space-themed event for the Players Championship tournament golfers, as well as their friends and family, at the Surf Club at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. The tour recruited Art of the Party L.L.C. to organize and create everything from the decor and lighting to table linens and entertainment.
The event featured two different setups, as one side of the room had tables dressed elegantly for a "Starry Starry Night"-esque dinner, while the other side was made into a children's fun corner with outer space decor.Art of the Party used black velvet draping to separate the two spaces and transform the standard banquet room into a more elegant area. Additionally, vibrant up-lighting and LED star machines created a brilliant nighttime sky, while the sapphire and silver linens gave the room a moonlight ambience.
As guests walked through the velvet drapes and under the large spandex arches, they entered into the children's corner complete with vibrant space artwork, entertainers, and an array of out-of-this-world food, such as a spaceship watermelon and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches shaped like stars. Colorful space characters greeted children as they entered the party, and gave them each a gift bag filled with trinkets.
Entertainment abounded in this space, from a performance by gymnasts to the lighted dance floor that changed colors to the beat of the music, in addition to the space characters, artists, and a ice machine making snow cones.
For the adults' dinner, the club set up a buffet of delicacies including colorful sushi selections, crab claws, spinach salad, and whole grilled lobsters. To round out the feast, decorative cakes, miniature cookies, tarts, cream puffs, and fresh chocolate-covered strawberries were served for dessert.
The tournament was held in Ponte Vedra May 8 through 11 and is considered PGA Tour's major golf contest, bringing some of the most well-known golfers to the Jacksonville area.
