Atlantic Media Relies on HDO

E814501
Molly Clancy is Atlantic Media’s senior events manager. She plans roughly 25 events a year, ranging from executive dinners for 25 to panel discussions and award shows for 500.

Tents: "HDO Productions has great customer service and tent designs. For a reception held prior to the White House Correspondents Association dinner, they gave us up to a few days prior to the event to gauge the weather for tenting. In terms of flexibility, they are fantastic. For their high-quality work, they are affordable."Venue: "We use Hay-Adams Hotel for 10 events a year because they have a great location next to the White House and their customer service makes our guests' experiences perfect. The entire hotel has a deep wood finish to the walls invoking a classic atmosphere—the overall atmosphere is very D.C. They host many upscale events, so the staff is used to interacting with high-profile guests. Their motto tends to be 'serve the client,' so regardless of the time pressure they face, they get their job done while maintaining a high level of service."

Music: "Wright Music and Production is very easy to work with. They provide professional services and have flexible pricing. They can perform anything—big band, jazz, swing, classical styles, you name it. We worked with them on the fourth annual Michael Kelly awards, named after the former editor killed in Iraq in 2003. This event benefits journalists who are in the fearless pursuit to express journalism, and Wright was very accommodating about selecting music that was respectful of the event's nature."

Catering: "We’ve worked with Susan Gage and Tara Mora of Susan Gage Catering for well over five years now. They provide services for any event size or variety. Every year, we hold a dinner the evening before the White House Correspondents Association dinner for advertisers where the Atlantic Monthly’s food critic, Corby Cummer, highlights a different design element of cuisine. This year Susan and her company came up with the brilliant idea to coordinate with Corby’s suggestions. Guests always tell me her food is some of the best they’ve had. Susan has always gotten our requests filled, no matter how demanding we may be, up to the last minute before an event begins."

Flowers: "I work with the owner, Allan, of Allan Woods Flowers & Gifts, and he always delivers high-quality flowers at an affordable price while managing to distinguish himself from all the other florists. Allan chooses colors to complement the room and the sizes of the tables. He is also very reliable. Once I called him on the morning of a luncheon with an emergency request. Within two hours, I had 10 arrangement delivered to the restaurant."

Transportation: "We’ve worked with Billy Knight at United Sedans for at least five years, and he consistently provides drivers and customer service that demonstrates his loyalty to our company. Last year, we had 30 cars provided to us by a sponsor for a weekend event, and the complexity of the circumstances was mitigated by Billy’s ability to deliver. He has the most competitive rates of any car service in the area, and trust me, we’ve priced many. I can call him within an hour and he will be here to pick up our V.I.P. guests without increased pricing or complaints."
