This year's March of Dimes Beauty ball honored Bernd Beetz, C.E.O. of perfume and cosmetics giant Coty Inc. Jennifer Schwartzenberg, the March of Dimes' director of special events, planned the 565-guest fund-raiser with Coty vice president of creative services Angela Hall, and corporate communications coordinator Maria La Gamba, who hired Cathy Morrell and Edie Schechter of Match Catering and Eventstyles to create the event's pretty pink decor.Morrell and Schechter filled the Waldorf-Astoria ballroom with hundreds of pale pink tulips, ranunculuses, roses, and phalaenopsis and dendrobium orchids, all arranged in an assortment of glass containers. Two different centerpieces decorated dinner tables. The arrangements included two large, stacked fish bowls with branches of orchids coiled inside. Morrell chose the vessels for their round shape, which mimics the March of Dimes' circular logo. The other tables referenced Coty's business: flasks, beakers, and vases in various sizes and shapes represented perfume bottles and scientific equipment found in fragrance laboratories. Mirrored trays like those found on women's vanity tables sat beneath the glass vessels.
