While the crowd from the Sean John fashion show the night before didn't make it up in time for the Dogs in Art show, honorary event chairs Cindy Adams and her dog Jazzy did. More than 200 dogs and 250 people showed up at the Doyle New York gallery for the private art viewing and champagne reception to benefit the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The benefit was designed to coincide with the Westminster Dog Show, which started the next day at Madison Square Garden.
In addition to art and dog lovers, guests included some well-behaved show winners and a few journalists. Lee Forgotson, senior editor at Bark: the Dog Culture Magazine, brought her dog Wallace for some art and hors d'oeuvres. But the dogs didn't get the same treatment as their escorts. "We don't want any accidents," a waiter told us when we asked why there was no food for the pups. Louis LeB. Webre, Doyle's vice president of marketing, remarked, "The bipeds can eat inside, but the quadripeds will have to wait until they get home."
The canines did get something, though. The gift-bags turned out to be doggy bags. Inside, guests found lots of trend-setting goodies, including a leopard-print squeaking chew toy, a bacon-flavored Nylabone, a package of notecards, and a Dentabone and can of dog chow courtesy of Pedigree.
