November 9, 2015: Venues Update Bathrooms to Reflect Gender-Neutral Policies, the Surprising Ways Brides Celebrate Their Big Day, New Tool Helps Planners Select Event Dates

1. VENUES UPDATE BATHROOMS TO REFLECT GENDER-NEUTRAL POLICIES: Across the country, venues such as the Whitney Museum of American Art and Pass & Provisions restaurant in Houston are designating restrooms as “all-gender” to welcome all patrons. Some changes are required by local law while others reflect carefully made decisions by the venues. The New York Times: “But strict plumbing codes or landmark status mean that businesses can’t just change the signage and then be in compliance. Multiple codes regulate the requirements, depending on the type of building, the year it was built and occupancy. In some cases, the code stipulates that a venue is allowed to have all-gender facilities rather than being required to do so, reflecting a shift from economic to societal considerations.” http://nyti.ms/1S3o2mP

2. THE SURPRISING WAYS BRIDES CELEBRATE THEIR BIG DAY: Today’s brides are booking more than just hair and makeup appointments on their wedding day. Hotels are offering unusual opportunities for wedding parties—from physical activities such as snowmobile scavenger hunts to cultural jaunts like private museum tours to personalized spa treatments such as apothecary blending parties with bridesmaids. Vogue: “These wedding day activities with friends and family are not only about fun, but also about differentiating your ‘I do’ moments from everyone else’s. Jessica Janik, founder of bridal concierge company The Invisible Bridesmaid, explains, ‘It’s crucial to have elements that make your wedding feel ultra-personal to everyone involved.’” http://goo.gl/IeFmHV

3. NEW TOOL HELPS PLANNERS SELECT EVENT DATES: The survey company Doodle announced a partnership with electronic invitation company Paperless Post to help event planners choose dates for their events. TechCrunch: “The integration works in both directions, he added — you can schedule something on Doodle and then send an invitation via Paperless Post, or you can can send out a Paperless Post invite that includes a link to a Doodle poll. And you can poll attendees about non-schedule-related issues, like the venue of an event or the food that you’ll serve.” http://tcrn.ch/1kCSARz
