When wrap dress queen Diane von Furstenberg celebrated the launch of her makeup line, Henri Bendel's director of marketing, Teril Turner, oversaw the transformation of the store's first floor cosmetics department into a sexy, classy, red-hued party space for a guest list of fashion and beauty editors, models and assorted members of the fashion flock.
Inspired by the makeup line's signature pink, neutral, red and gold color palette, Henri Bendel visual director Gilbert Vanderweide and David Gilman of Design and Production washed the space with red lights and suspended sheer red fabric with the "DVF" logo and a giant banner of the cosmetic line's logo from the top floor. Plasma screens showing runway shows of von Furstenberg's new collection dotted the room, and caterwaiters from Taste carefully navigated the packed party carrying large black lacquer trays of hors d'oeuvres.
DJ Vanessa Beck spun party music between short, live song sets by Toby Lightman, a new singer with a Sheryl Crow sound and Jewel look. Lightman's first set went largely unnoticed by the gabby, DVF-clad guests, who were jockeying for Zyr vodka cocktails (with names like "Stop Traffic Red" and "Follow Me Pink") and craning their necks to watch the runway videos and catch a glimpse of DVF herself.
