For the launch of Bumble & Bumble's new salon in the meatpacking district, PR director Julie Leong took advantage of the brand's cute, folksy personality by planning a barbecue—or BBQ, to play off the brand's initials—on the terrace of the new space, which has sweeping views of the Hudson River. While Olivier Cheng Catering and Events passed hors d'oeuvres inside, on the terrace the salon's house chef—there is a gourmet cafe in the building—prepared upscale versions of classics like barbecue beef, tofu and veggie skewers, carrot and raisin salad, potato salad, biscuits and cornbread. The buffet sat atop red and white checked tablecloths, decorated with abundant sunflowers. More sunflowers stuck out from the vents of three Weber grills, painted with a logo created for the event. Paper napkins featured the same logo in red—as did the tank tops, pins and temporary tattoos that accompanied hair products and stacks of slick collateral in the branded gift bags.
