The Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors' Bureau--with the cooperation of Mother Nature--pulled off a coup on the morning of its nautical-themed press breakfast at the West Side Loft to market the city and its new convention center. The gray, rainy Manhattan morning made the beachfront city seem even more appealing than a glossy press kit ever could to the travel editors who showed up.
At the entrance to the pre-breakfast reception space at the BCF&M-produced event, American Foliage and Design Group built a wooden pier that extended into a windowed room containing a rowboat, beach chairs, sun umbrellas and other beach-evocative props. The relaxed, nautical decor complemented signage highlighting Virginia Beach's new ad campaign slogan: "Live the Life." Next, guests moved into the dining room for a presentation about the city along with James Catering 's frittata and sausage breakfast. Guests found their seats at crisp white tables with the help of BCF&M-designed name cards ornamented with seashells and ribbons. Glass hurricane lamps filled with shells and starfish served as simple centerpieces. Guests left with a branded canvas tote with branded golf tees, a T-shirt, a wine cozy and a bottle of Chardonnay from a Virginia vineyard.
